"Refer a Friend" Program

542 points posted to Advertising and Marketing, Dell Community by john_saddington 02/19/07

Would love to see a "Refer a Friend" Program, which would help build Dell's client base as well as reward "grassroots" marketing through social groups, peers, and the community!

Tons of things could be encapsulated and joined together with this initiative and program!

FYI: Vonage has this marketing feature, the Refer -A - Friend feature ensures credit for the customers who refer their friends. An e coupon link will be sent to the customer during purchase of the Vonage device. The customer if he needs to refer his friend, has to make sure that his/ her friend uses the e coupon link "only" to sign up for Vonage service.
If the customer's friend does not use the e coupon sign up link, credit will be denied to the customer though he referred his friends
( I came to know about this reading the templates)
Lots of customers have issues in availing the credit by this plan. Many customers pop up with issues...;)

I like this one and submitted a similar but more social network - focused idea (and maybe a tad more work for Dell :-) ) that should probably merge with this, here's the slightly edited text, John and/or others let me know what you think:

"Just like on Facebook where you can share your activities with friends, there should be a service from Dell where people can link up with their friends and follow what they are doing. Dell could even have special discounts or promotions if groups of friends decide to buy the same thing.

So continuing along the 'social link' idea, in the consumer area there could even be a wish list (or "I want this") section so friends/family could buy things for each other.

Since a lot of people don't spend a lot of time on the Dell site, the communications could come from emails and texts so everyone could see what was happening. I get a lot of emails from Dell but I think I would read them more if they were also mentioning what my friends were buying, or if they said something like "your friend just bought a flat screen, we'll give you the same one for a Super price".

Instead of making people try to think of all their friends that are Dell registered buyers, if you could import your friend lists from your social sites that would be cool."

So I realize this ups the ante a bit, heh heh, but it picks up on you mentioning social groups, etc --
