New XPS Range - 64Bit

880 points posted to XPS products by xdivino Jul 22

When you refresh the XPS range, you should include 64bit OS as standard or as optional.

Promote the change forward to 64bit to promote development in 64bit programs and have 4gb ram standard.

For being as corporate as Dell is it is quite sad that they have not done this yet. Depressingly disturbing actually.

What is even more disturbing is that Dell is selling systems with 4GB of RAM with 32-bit OS, which cannot adress the whole memory range. Very sad indeed !

This is absolutely necessary, the XPS range is well suited for 64bit Windows XP or Vista and Dell should sell it.

And please also laptop systems with MORE than 4GB memory for the 64bit operating systems.

I have been waiting for months to buy an XPS system with a 64-bit OS - how much longer will I have to wait?

Who knows? Dell seldom speaks with the customers about what they are doing and they seldom comment on any of our ideas making this website a fair amount of wasted time spent by us, the loyal customers, who want to help make Dell better.

Specifically, can you offer Vista x64 on all XPS latops too, given the XPS range is aimed at enthusiasts looking for performance running cutting edge applications?

@ rainboy : Absolutely agree. I'm astonished Dell are offering 4GB memory upgrade options with Vista 32 given only ~3GB of that is usable.

I have now started looking at competitors products with 64-bit options - there are many and they are willing to negotiate on price - If it works out Dell is on the verge of losing another customer. A customer who is interested in looking at high performance and cutting edge applications.

Nice to see the just announced Latitude E6500 series have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate OS option now - are we going to see this as well on Centrino 2 XPS Laptops ?
