Non-Glare High Resolution LED Displays

990 points posted to Monitors and Displays, XPS products, Vostro products by anonym Jul 18

Please stop the glossy display nonsence and provide a non-glare display options for all models. If possible with LED backlight, because it is brighter, thinner and less power consuming. I like the XPS M1330 very much, but the glossy display is a real show stopper...

Btw, the glossy finish of the Vostro 1310 case also seems quite pointless to me.

No way! I like glossy screens...DEMOTED!

So, you demote an OPTION for non-glare displays because YOU like glossy displays!?

It is an option. It is called 'True life'. Do some research.

@dellrox:
You are absolutely right, True Life is an option, but I would like to have a NON-GLARE (i.e. non-reflecting, matte) display option. This option is missing for the XPS M1330 for instance.

This is what i found out on www.dell.com/uk about True Life:
"A TrueLife display offers a viewing experience that is more crisp and more vivid than lower resolution displays that have anti-glare coatings and lower contrast ratios. Please note that TrueLife displays are more shiny and reflecting than normal displays."

or what kind of research do you mean?

anonym, I interpreted your first words ("Please stop the glossy display nonsence") as a request to stop offering glossy displays.

@winoffice:
I don't like glossy displays but it's ok to offer such displays, of course!

Well then, I agree with this idea, and I would change my vote.

Glossy screens are no good. Dell should offer matte screens on their XPS. I am not going to buy a Dell XPS laptop because they only offer glossy.

By the way, why is there still no "change vote" function here?

Yes, there is NO option on some of them.

i love my m1330, but i'd absolutely adore it if it had matte screen.

I can also only fully support the wish that THE CUSTOMER should be able to select between glossy/truelife and non-glossy/matte display. Ideally for any size & resolution.
Esp. I'd like to see the option for non-glossy WSXGA+ on the 15,x " models (esp. XPS M1530)

DELL, P L E A S E make this possible !

This it the thing i MOST want Dell to do, out of any of the ideas here. If I could, I'd take away all my votes for other things and put them on this. It's the single one thing I most dislike about my Dell laptops.

Glossy screens are my preference - depth of black in them is much better than matt screens - and so much better for reviewing and editing digital photos.

yes but benf you need to realise some people have laptops for other reasons - like being able to use in daylight. i admit movies look fantastic on glossy, but it's not practical for some things. i just hope noone's demoting this for reasons like that

I agree that the anti glare option should be offered, but I personally think that although both screen types are great, glossy ones are a tad better. My Inspiron XPS Generation 2 has a glossy screen.

I would also like to see non-glossy as an option again.

Another +10 for NON-glossy screen. I won't tell "stop nonsense with glossy ..." but I'll tell : "Give people choice! " I'm working with PC's since 1997 and now I have problem with sight and last thing I want is disturbing reflections from screen (like reflections from glasses weren't enough?!) ...
