When you ask for suggestions try responding to them

This Idea is 2 fold.

First you created a website for customers to submit ideas and hardy ever give feedback. There are currently 14 ideas on the front page that haven't been tagged yet. Dell tells us that you talk about these top ideas 1 - 2 times a week. How hard is it to tag an idea after you talk about it?

Second you post an article on Direct 2 Dell about the new Dell home page and ask for suggestions. I posted a reply yesterday afternoon with links to several Ideas I had posted over the last year on the topic. Not only did I never get a response on any of them on IdeaStorm but they get ignored on Direct 2 Dell as well.

I would hate think I am wasting my time sharing ideas here.

Dell will wake up one day when there is no posting anymore :)

I used to comment here regularly, but have given up. This is the first time I've visited in ages. Dell asked for our ideas, but doesn't seem to want to respond or implement them except in a few cases that suit them.

I have a Dell business account (which I set up when they introduced Linux computers) and do buy Dell computers for work, but I'm very frustrated at their lack of response to the top ideas on this forum. I support Dell for now, but as other computer manufacturers start to respond to the demands of the IT literate public, my loyalty will not last. I want a PC manufacturer that claims to build what its customers want, to actually do what it advertises.

I bought a new dell XPS desktop last month, and will need other computers soon. Why should I remain faithful to Dell if they can't even be bothered to respond to the top ideas on a forum that THEY set up?

I promised to buy a Ubuntu system from Dell at the first, but since EVERY AD I see in the paper or have mailed to me by Dell NEVER MENTIONS -ANY- Ubuntu option, I see no reason to even THINK of purchasing from them. (Yes, I have liked their gear and we have standardized on Dell here at work, but for my own use and BY my own convictions, I couldn't see supporting a company that, as you say, doesn't actually support ME or MY needs and requirements.)

I believe that is consistent with your view t20raceman.

This is the first time I've logged onto here in a solid two months. Never mind there not being any new ideas on the front page, I could swear the status of all the ideas on the front page hasn't changed. I don't think anyone from Dell has even bothered to comment on any of the idea threads, either.

I think it's safe to say I'll never be using this again. I mean, what's the point? I'm better off talking to a wall... at least then I know not to expect a response.

The best we can expect is within our own exchanges, it seems. I suspect THAT is what has kept a number of us going. I've invited a few to Nick Petreley's www.varlinux.org site ...

I agree Phubert. If it weren't for the participants on the site I may have left long ago. Then again I'm pretty thick headed...

Of course they want the money. Unfortunately they look at the short term (make a quick sale) as opposed to long term. Any company that takes this approach eventually alienates the consumer base and falters.

So on July 7th Tommy from Dell was looking into this....but no further information....not a way to create that warm fuzzy feeling.

I had that sort of experience with a site manager for a large corporation (won't identify it further). He had tried to be helpful and build bridges but later said to me and one other he was told in no uncertain terms to STOP and he knew it meant he would lose his job. Since he was offered a promotion to another site, off he went and we never heard from him again. IF you work for a corporation and wind up crossing swords with corporate policy it appears you either comply or leave.

http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/62047/PreInstalled_OpenOffice__alternat... Was posted on 2/17/07 and has been on the front page for much of its time on the site. Is it too much to expect that Dell would give it a status tag?

Reminds me of when the religious leaders of the day asked Jesus where he got the authority to heal people. When he responded "Where do you say John's baptism is from, from man or from God?" and they would not answer him, he replied "Neither will I answer you". Dell may be in the position of those leaders... they are reluctant to give an answer.

All,

Note that all of the items jervis961 posted were either routed to the correct party or responded to in the original threads. Just because there wasn't an update comment doesn't mean they aren't impacting the change we drive daily at Dell.

We're doing what we can to provide resposes in a timely manner. Sometimes that means taking quite a bit of time to track down the right person.

I'm doing what I can to get answers to items that I can't answer.

Well, Tommy, I tend to believe Dell staffers who participate here, but I'm afraid I still don't see that a number of questions have ever been answered... like Jervis' last one above mine above yours...

..and we never did hear back on why the line items in our dashboard no longer includes who has voted on what submissions of ours... that was a useful feature there from the beginning and suddenly disappeared. We were told it was being given to Salesforce and that's the LAST we've heard of it.

Black hole???

Well, I'm fine with Tommy as he has been trying to help out on point number 2 of the idea. As for part one he doesn't have any control over that and nobody else from Dell seems interested.

I have no problem with Tommy... but a few with Dell... perhaps they cannot help being less than forthcoming... after all, they ARE a publicly traded corporation...

Yes, I've been watching my stock decline again. Dell shares information all the time through leaks that they then won't comment on. Rumor gets more attention (free advertising) than actual news.

I feel it is mainly because of the lack of human-human ability to speak to one another.

It's also because of simple GREED... "shareholder-driven" these days does NOT mean "long term gain"!

When the ONLY bottom line is Wall Street "expectations" employees and even customers are expendable.

I'm a shareholder, take me to the steering wheel. :D

With the amount of shares I own it would be the equivalent of an ant trying to steer an 18 wheeler. :(
