Vertical Laptop Cradle/Docking Station

270 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops by thebittersea Jul 2

When I want to use my external monitor, keyboard and mouse my docked laptop gets into the way.

Often time, I need to push it out of the way. It would be really cool if we can vertically dock our laptop like a book on a bookshelf to save some table space.

something like this, but for laptops.

Borrowing an idea from HP, how about a LCD panel with a laptop dock mounted behind it? One laptop to bind the office, road & home, one laptop to rule them all...

But what about laptops that have their ports on the left/right sides and none on the front or back?

@jeopardy... the docking station should have ports that you can use in lieu of ports located on the laptop itself.

OK well take something like my XPS M1330, for example. If i slot it in vertically, like in your example pic, only one side will be plugged into the docking station. And all the other ports will be on top. See what I mean?

maybe a IPOD dock looking thing should do it. it doesn't have to be fully enclosed on the bottom.
the point of this idea is that we can shelf our laptops like a book vs. laying flat on the table.

Ohh wait -- do you mean having a dedicated "dock" port on one side?
And then all the needed ports would be on the dock so you wouldn't have to worry that the laptop's own ports aren't connected..

Should be a hinge with it so you can dock the laptop up vertical, (clips into place at 90º) and also horizontal, (clips into place at 0º).
