Integrated Monitor

30 points posted to Desktops, Monitors and Displays by inczo757 Jun 30

I think it would be cool to have the monitor integrated into the side of the Desktop Tower. There is alot of surface area here and it should be easy enough to incorporate a thin LED or LCD screen into the side of the tower you remove when doing updates. Im using a Dell Pecision 690 and that could easily have a 24" monitor in its side.

-1 since the product lifecycle's so very different.

Historically, I've replaced my monitor maybe once in 10 years; my computer about once in 3-5 years. I'd hate to have to pay for a new monitor every time I upgrade a computer.

Usually my computer is shoehorned into a small space while my monitor goes on a REAL desktop. This idea is for a monitor I couldn't see. Maybe a better approach would be for a monitor that could be clipped to the side of the tower, but also comes with a stand.

So, your tower now has to sit on top of your desk? A regular monitor typically has a smaller footprint than does a tower case. What about height and angle adjustment? Additional cooling? Larger power supply? CD/DVD drives would need to be loaded from the "side" of the monitor instead of a head-on facing? All the cables in the back of the tower would now be sticking out the "side" of your monitor? Yuck! And when you want/need to replace your tower, you need to replace your monitor as well? No thank you!

I'm sorry, but this just doesn't make much sense to me.

Well, I don't know about a tower PC with a monitor in the side, but perhaps more all in one PC-monitor like systems.

If we are going to use the All-In-One computer, instead of the tower, the status should be "ALREADY IMPLEMENTED."

What you are conceiving is kinda what apple does with there desktop computers now. They have just eliminated the tower all together.

This has sort of been done. There is a skinny dell desktop chassis that basically sits on the back of the monitor stand. It ends up being a compact desktop/monitor setup. It doesn't take much room because it is the skinny desktop chassis and the monitor and tower are seperate components hooked together. I have seen this used as a cash register or bridal registry setup at many locations. I will update or post a better description/picture/link when I can.

I agree with some comments here. This sounds quite similar to what the XPS One model has already achieved.
