Ruler for the monitor

80 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays by 5pixels Jun 23

This is not my idea. I found it on the web somewhere, when I was looking for a solution to my problem.

I am a web designer, I am always having difficult time
measures things in pixels. I needed something
that I can take a look at my monitor with and visually measure
size of my creations

I judge it going by the size of an A4 sheet of paper.

There are lots of desktop toys (tools) for Windows and Linux and Mac that do a variety of pixel manipulations -- rulers, capture, magnifications, etc.

I don't think this really has anything to do with Dell, though.

Sounds like a _software_ request.

Dell doesn't make its own monitors and there may be monitors of different physical sizes that support the same number of pixels horizontally and vertically. Then we have the 'widescreen' monitors vs. the more square ones.

All these things will change how images are rendered and how they appear.\

Tough call.

You'd need some 'reference' then awareness of the nature of each monitor as well as each chosen resolution.

Sounds like it could be useful. ...but possibly very annoying for a USER if, for example, displays were made to 'match' some reference model resulting in part of the display being black (unused)... in order to maintain the original ASPECT of an image.

Well Dell produce workstations for serious design work. So it could be a nice little freebie application they give away.

Could be. Still, it's a request for specific software with a very narrow focus.

People just don't have all the proper office supplies anymore. Integrate a high-precision aluminitum ruler in the screen would be nice, mut it should work for a general meassuring as well, not just for giving an idea of what's on the screen.

5pixels, your idea inspired me to make this one: http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10090217/Develop_science__scifi_concept...

In the sense of bridging the virtual world with the real world, a ruler is such a rudimentary and important instrument ... you can do so much when you know exact dimensions :-)
