Shutdown/Hibernate key on the keyboard

20 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) by ramaseshanr Jun 16

Provide a shutdown/hybernate key part of the keyboard.
Similar to camera button. Half pressed and released - hybernate
Keep pressing - shutdown the system

In XP you can set the action that the powerbutton involkes. So you CAN set it to hibernate your computer. Make sure you set it to unHibernate as an option too. Otherwise you will shut down Windows... UG!

Power on after hybernation wakes up the hybernated system, therefore there is no need to have a "unhybernate" button

@ramaseshanr:

Are you suggesting this feature as a seperate button, or would you like to see something link this designed into the power button?

@nivek: I am talking about a hibernate key in the keyboard and not Start->shutdown->buttons

@ramaseshanr, I know. as far as I am aware, ALL Dell laptops have Standby and Hibernate buttons by pressing Function+Esc or +F1. Many Dell keyboards for desktops also have Hibernate and Standby buttons. Also, Windows is set so that the user can configure what happens when the Power button is pressed. If you chooose the right settings, it will bring up the shut down menu.

@nivek: I am not talking about buttons to bring up a menu. On pressing the designated button on the keyboard, the system start to hibernate
