Develop a hygienic keyboard

160 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) by badblood Jun 3 **ALREADY OFFERED**

Look down at your keyboard. Have a real close look. Get your face right close. You know how filthy that thing is?

I would buy a new keyboard.

If this user's keyboard in in this shape, I wouldn't want to be using his code.

Need better vacuums, I think... and a TOP that pops-off for cleaning!

Why don't you change this suggestion to say:

"Develop a snap-apart keyboard for easier CLEANING!"

I don't like the snap-apart keyboards. Users are always putting the keys back in the wrong places.

Talk about your own keyboard. I lick my keyboard clean every other day. Looks as good as new. ;-)

But, isn't that the USERs' problem, then, paperpilot? I mean, let 'em live with their own mistakes.

@phubert you don't understand. When they are writing code for you, it quickly becomes your problem.

your USERS are PROGRAMMERS? They write code FOR YOU????

That`s an interesting concept phubert. Maybe a light spraying of Lysol would help you. Antibacterial keyboards are already in existance.

Hmmm a brush does the job.

@phubert my USERS are PROGRAMMERS? They write code for the customer, using my tools. If the customer is unhappy, I get to hear about it and it becomes my problem.

BAAAAD programmer! WHACK!!

@badblood: I sent you an email in regards to the picture, but I received a bounceback. Can you please check your email address on IdeaStorm to make sure it is correct? Thanks!

Just clean your keyboard regularly.
It only gets dirty because you don't clean it.

I see that they are gaining popularity in hospitals in England. I do like the idea.

Yeah, there are dishwasher safe and sterilizable keyboards, but they cost as much as the rest of the computer. I liked the stainless steel keyboard and track ball, but it's over $1000..

dawn_I I stand corrected.

This is already offered and the idea can be deleted!

I have owned 4 Dell laptops, and my wife has owned 3.
I also own a dog.
I am constantly needing to try to pull dog hairs out from between the keys on the laptops (the hairs even interfere with pressing keys). Cookie crumbs are a problem too.

I want an illuminated hygienic keyboard built into my laptop. On further thought, no, what I really want is to see new keyboard design and/or construction technology that makes them less susceptible to problems from random particles getting into the keyboard mechanisms.

Thanks to looking up this thread I now know that I can get an after market keyboard cover, and that will help me for my next laptop, but I'd still like to see keyboard technology improve so that we have a keyboard technology that is all of these things: inherently hygienic, illuminated, and still has good tactile feel and response.

It would be nice to see THAT for DESKTOPS as well... cookie crumbs! LOL ... in this case, crackers...

It`s just reality. People eat around and over the keyboard. I`m eating Cheesies now.

There's finger nails, skin cells, dust, hairs of different lengths, apple juice, bread crumbs, cookie crumbs, and a whole lot more stuff in my keyboard.

It's like a micro cosmos on it's own. If i had a magnifying glass i bet i could see things moving in it.
