CUSTOMIZATION PROCESS - IMPROVED 220 points posted to Dell Web Site by pablohs May 21 This idea is more philosophical than anything else, but I think it will give a fresh uncluttered look and feel to dell.com website. Start the customization process with just three options; 1) A Laptop, 2) A desktop, 3) A server (three pictures in the web page) – Dell has five lines of laptops and five lines of desktops, but as a customer I don’t even care how you call the laptops (XPS, Latitude, etc.) (It is just a laptop). For example if I choose a laptop let me pick among ALL the processors that you offer, then let me pick my memory from 1 to 8GB, then the size of my screen and HD, etc… Let me customize what I really care (my user requirements). When I finish customizing my laptop I may have narrowed my options to only one laptop in one production line (such an XPS) or multiple laptops in different lines but that should be the end of the customization process not the beginning.
