Ubuntu Linux systems Down Under

510 points posted to Advertising and Marketing, Linux, Sales Strategies by finkisadink May 10

At present it's not possible to buy a Dell system with Linux preinstalled within Australia. This is something that I believe should be resolved as soon as practicable — at present I'm having to buy systems with Windows preinstalled, only to never use that license... and this also costs me time & money as I have to perform a full SOE build from scratch.

finkisadink,
Dell is currently offering Linux systems for purchase in other countries outside the US. I cannot say "when" or "if" Dell is going to start shipping in Australia. We can only wait and see if they will start. I also moderate the Linux forum and see a that there are a large number of people all over the World that are wanting the same for their Countries.
I do communicate this information to our Product Group. They also read these forums for "ideas" and "wants" of the Linux users.
Thanks for posting your interest in getting Linux systems shipping in Australia. This is the place to get your "Ideas" implemented.

I am waiting to buy an Ubuntu Dell here in Australia. Dell has a chance to be leader here not a follower.

Come on lads. I've been waiting for ages to get my hands on a dell ubuntu laptop (inspiron 1525) over here for ages. I've used ubuntu in live mode on a dell latitude D510 in the past and it works fantastically. If you get these out I will buy one for sure, just hurry it up already.
