Laptop Keyboard

90 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops by st_jyoung May 5

I'v really enjoyed the style of keyboard on a desktop computer, with the keys just right at my wrists. With a laptop computer, it is not as easy to type because of the distance from the bottom of the keys to the bottom of the computer. It is also very common for me to accidentally strike the mouse pad and move the cursor/pointer without wanting to. I suggest move the keypad closer to the end of the computer and create a popout mouse pad on the side of the computer.

st_jyoung,

You may want to take a look at our 1730 and our Vostro 1700 systems. They have a bigger keyboard that may fit your needs.

Hmm.. very interesting.. a popout mouse pad.. it HAS to be something STURDY that can pop out as the CD drive pops out when you press a button. But sturdier of course.. I think a good thing about having the keyboard behind the mouse pad is that having it that way causes your wrists to press on the front of the computer. WHen one is typing somewhere else thats not a desk, for example in your lap while in bed or on the floor in a park, that pressure you put on the computer with your wrists helps you keep the computer in place and not fall back. Imagine holding your computer from going back with only the fingers you type with. So, I dont know.. BUt the pop up mouse pad idea sounds great. I think the keyboard closer to the edge is a good idea for computers such as the M2010 which is basically a computer that is meant to be on the desk and thus you dont need to have more control over it, it just stays put. On the other hand, having your wrists slide against the plastic finish constantly will in the end wear out the paint that DELL uses making it look very ugly and old.
