We all know that Dell is supposedly getting ready to launch a new ultra mobile eee competitor. Dell should one up the competition by offering a broader platform with more hardware and software options than HP or Asus does. Such as giving options between Intel's Atomm, or Via processors. Also OS options such as offering Vista Buisness, XP, and Linux on a machine. This will give Dell the advantage over HP and Asus that lock people into certaing hardware configurations depending on the OS that they choose.

Well AMD mobile procs aren't exactly power efficient. But yeah amd procs were also meant to be included on that list.

i thought part of making these things cheap was that the company buys the parts in bulk.... which means being able to customize them would make it more expensive. that's why i'm demoting

Yes but many customers would be willing to pay a bit more for the ability to get exactly what they want. That is after all one of the things Dell is known for. Giving customers exactly what they want.

I demoted...the "make in bulk" part does help with expense, so a design which allows user-customization, but with a default configuration, would be a good middle-ground. : )

Personally I don't care what CPU is in the system. What matters is it works and I can afford to buy it.
