Let us rate Ideas on a scale of 1-10 instead of just up/down.

Most of the Ideas on IdeaStorm are good. Few are great. So very often I find myself reading an idea and thinking "yeah, that's kinda good and it'd be nice if Dell did this; but I sure hope it wouldn't distract them from the even better ideas".

Rather than just voting up or down and idea, how about change the voting system so everyone can rate an idea from 1-10.

Or -1 through -10, if we disagree. So it should actually be -10 through +10.

Sorry.. I demoted because I like the demote/promote style we have here. A neutral option and the ability to change one's mind on a vote are the changes Id like to see.. I think the demote/promote style is very straight forward and I like it.

Looks like a dup, jmxz...

I'm voting for it only because I'd like to see some MOVEMENT on site suggestions... I'm really more in stormrider451's corner, tho...

cool.

admins: feel free to merge if you can find the other one.

I thought I had one... but it was likely merged with something else... However, I'm afraid I can't always fathom the logic the mods use to determine that submissions ARE dups! From my perspective more than a few of them have been a real reach!

I'm mostly trying to think of how to differentiate between all the ' that's kinda cool' vs the "wow, I'd buy one today" ideas.

Hmm. if that's my goal perhaps a better idea would be "let us vote more strongly by placing pre-orders. For example :If Dell offered product X in 30 days, I'll get one and here's my down payment to prove it".

In a sense, though, sales and IdeaStorm are Apples and Oranges... or maybe Apples and rocks...

Yeah - that's why I didn't submit that idea yet. I can't place a pre-order on "change how we vote on ideastorm" :-).

The simple promote-demote is good for people like me, who would waste way too much time thinking about a score otherwise! I think it all probably all averages out to some extent in the end, if enough people view the posts, as weak positive or negative opinions would translate to people just not voting. I don’t think a neutral option would have a function (it would just lock you out of voting if you did form a positive or negative opinion later, in the current format); however I don’t see any reason not to allow change-of-mind.

Which comes back to: Give us the ability to CHANGE our vote!

Too many of us have hit the wrong button accidentally.

Too many of us CHANGE OUR MIND after reading comments.
