Discounts for schools when parents buy Dell computers for their child

200 points posted to Sales Strategies by jervis961 Apr 24

Dell currently gives a percentage off a Dell system to college students but not middle and high school ones. I say give the same discounts to middle and high school student's parents but with a twist. Offer a deal where parents get the same price as the regular Dell site and the discount goes to their child's school to purchase new computers. You could even extend the deal out to everyone who buys a Dell system to select a school for the money to be applied to.

Schools do get a discount on Dell computers, primary and secondary schools get discounts.

This would be money to go towards their purchases as a result of parents buying computers. it is like a fundraiser.

My Elementary school aged kids use computers too.

I like the idea of being able to have a percentage of your purchase be contributed to a school of your choice. Dell would be wise to push this especially when so many schools are facing budget shortages.

I remember that Dell offers something like this during the pre-school months (the months before the school year).

They should offer it year round then.

jmxz - I understand your feelings.

I'm a network engineer for a school district, and I can't promote this idea enough. Some principals can't be bothered to update their schools' hardware. They just choose to use funds elsewhere (not always on things that are "needed"). Having incoming funding that is earmarked specifically for hardware refreshes and upgrades would be a useful tool for district IT departments.

@james: "Having incoming funding that is earmarked specifically for hardware refreshes and upgrades would be a useful tool for district IT departments."

But presumably harmful for other programs that might be more in need of the funds?

@jmxz: I think he is talking about the additional funds coming in from Dell's program being earmarked specifically for computer infrastructure. It's more than what they would have if Dell didn't give them money thus not really taking away from other funds.
