Help Customers to a Better Internet experience - TELL them about UBUNTU!!!

310 points posted to Linux, Sales Strategies by phubert Apr 21

Dell can HELP its customers have a better Internet experience by openly PROMOTING Ubuntu!

As Mark Shuttleworth, of Canonical, points out:

"...if people think of their daily experience as a sit down on the web, we know that people can have a very compelling experience on Linux.

"In fact, we know it is a better web experience because they can do it without spyware, without viruses."

Mr Shuttleworth said he believed there were about eight to nine million users of Ubuntu worldwide. " ****

Microsoft brags constantly with its literally billions of advertising dollars. Linux/OSS must resort to community "bragging."

No software can escape from viruses or spyware and if we all moved to ubuntu then ubuntu will become the target of such things just like when apple said it was immune look what happend then don't get me wrong i'v allways loved linux sometimes i get annoyed with windows users who go on about ubuntu if it was not for them making a linux version of windows most of you would not have used linux think im wrong go install bsd or slackware u'll not get the good old windows baby sitting with them.

@veer01

You make a good point. I've had similar experiences trying to get a computer noobs to use Ubuntu. But that was two years ago. Ubuntu has made great strides since then and has addressed many of those issues.

But your point still stands. There is more support for windows, naturally since it has some 90% share of the market.

The Linux community grows and gets better everyday.

Wildfire Growth:

The facts are The Open Source software movement has gone wild. Because no one owns it, because it works great, becasue it is secure...it has taken on a life of it's own through the millions of people who use it. It has been growing this way for the last ten years, slowly and without any significant marketing help or understanding.

...

If you run a sic code search in Harte Hanks for which industry sector is using the Open Source most, you'll discover that it's the technology integrators (those who manage IT on behalf of those who've grown too big to do it for themselves). What this means is that Integration professionals feel confident about risking their reputations on it. In fact, Integrators know that if their services to their big customers go down, they pay contract-negotiated penalties. Because they have some of the greatest IT minds in North America working for them, they know that Open Source code works better than anything else. ****
