Isn't the Linux community doing enough lobbying all over the place on the internet?

That's pretty much the nature of the Linux community or any open source community that's spread across the globe.

Took me a second but I think I get. OP would probably like to see a comparative listing of the advantages of Linux relative to Windows.

That would be a tough job in terms of trying to explain the advantages of Linux to a general computer user without serious embellishment or talking up the negatives.

However, if a system with windows cost, say, $200 more, that would be easier to explain especially if all a person did was browse the web, email, and do some open office work. Once you get past that, they're probably better off with windows. Things could and probably will change in the future. But as it is now...

And yes, there are repositories for more software but let's be realistic; some are on dial-up so the ability to download might be out of the question. Plus not every type of program exists as open source. Some of the best, most popular and most powerful software is closed source.

Well there's no embellishment in saying Linux is more secure and more stable than Windows. It's also cheaper as a desktop OS and comes with what is as close as is possible to a guarantee of free life-time upgrades. For life.

It's also no exaduration to say Linux manages hardware resources more efficiently. Putting the hardware to better use or that many Windows software titles actually run faster in Linux than they do in Windows. With the help of Wine or Cedega.

Sure, but to the average user, meh? Not enough to outweigh the cons.

Free lifetime upgrades are functionally irrelevant as most people purchase a new computer every few years to get the latest and greatest. With it comes a new OS.

More stable and secure - That's somewhat subjective. I've had minimal problems running XP or Ubuntu.

Uses hardware resources more efficiently? True. Bur for the average user, so what?

Runs windows titles faster under Wine or Cedega? Not always. And certainly not always noticeably. Plus there are windows titles that do not run under those. But there's always virtualization to take care of that.

It might be true, but it's not nice to keep saying Windows is a con. :oD
