Right your Wrongs...

200 points posted to Service and Support by kyleigh Apr 9

I was one of the many consumers affected by the battery recall about a year or so back. I received a new battery about 8 months after I bought my new Inspiron 6000 as per the recall - 6 months later, that battery died! As in, no longer worked at ALL. When I called to try to get a replacement battery for a 6 MONTH OLD part, I was told that my warranty had expired. Yes, I had bought the computer over a year before, but YOU still provided me with a product that lasted for under one year. So, while technically it may not have been covered, I don't feel comfortable ever again buying from a retailer that provides their loyal consumers (that was my 3rd dell baught with a Preferred Account) with parts and services that only last for 6 months. Shame on you.

Unfortunately batteries are not covered under warranty anyway.

This is still a great point. If Dell has no responsibility for batteries, then why the recall in the first place?! They should definitely help him out. It isn't that big of a cost (if their products would stand up), and good customer service guarantees that people will come back.

The recall was because the batteries caught fire and it would cause huge lawsuits if they did nothing about it. A battery is seen as a part that wears out like car tires or a car battery which are also not covered by factory warranty..

Interesting. I didn't know the specifics of the battery industry.
But, do you concede that this isn't good customer service sense? (or cents?)

Since my battery is at its end of life per Dell diagnostics and it was before the end of my extended warranty, sure. I think no battery should wear out in 6 months and I also think they could be a little more clear about what is not covered by warranty. Unfortunately they have policy to follow so I wouldn't hold your breath.
