Stop Making Canadian Purchases 20% More Expensive Than US

270 points posted to Dell, Sales Strategies by canadaboy Apr 9

I just did the pricing of a Inspiron 1720 on the US and Canadian versions of the web (www.dell.com, www.dell.ca)

The price for the exact same models and warranty (3 year complete care, onsite):

US: $2331
CND: $2767

Difference: 18.7%, $436 Difference

This is not unusual, and it's actually grown very negative in my approach to Dell as a Canadian customer (and I love Dell). It's hard to understand why the cost difference exists as it does.

Now, I understand that each country is tweaked for it's own buying habits (example, the US site starts with a warrenty push, and the options are presented slightly differenty than the Canadian site), and I assume that it's to maximize country based biases into better margins. That's cool (really), upselling through options and the way they are presented is really cool.

But when pricing out the same products, the prices should be in line. Otherwise, just get the feeling the Dell is really a big US company which doesn't care about other country markets.

I have to agree with what you say.Just look at the products availability of each country and you will know.

Agreed, I made a similar post about this a little while ago that also included the discrepancy in the longevity of the deals, and the customization options. However since there probably are very few Canadians roaming around on here, be prepared to get only a few promotes. I Know, it stinks. If Canada has deals like the US, I would have bought an XPS 1530 a long time ago.

some of that could be attributed to the value of the Canadian dollar tp the US dollar (its like $1.2 CND for every US $1.0)
Note: i am not 100% certain on the exchange rate

Way too high ajmukon. It's almost 1:1 now. To be exact, 1.00 USD ~= 1.02 CDN. iv2101, care to explain the demote?
