Dell: catch up with your competition - offer BETTER Ubuntu systems!

260 points posted to Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops by phubert Apr 7

As someone else posted... the blogs are commenting on Dell...

And, as we know, Dell's Ubuntu offerings are few & have fewer options...

Solution: look to the competition and MATCH or BETTER them!

Dell Ubuntu Customization/Selection = HORRIBLE! ****

What competition? There's only HP, Acer, Lenovo, Sony, and Toshiba that can be considered competition. And none of them sell systems with Ubuntu. Might want to write a letter to each of them. Those other two boutiques listed in that blog don't even show up on the radar. Clevo outsells both of them put together by a wide margin but barely shows up on the radar.

I'll give you this, your posts do have a flair for the dramatic.

Check out the links in the article...

Yes, 2nd or 3rd tier, but in the Ubuntu space: competition... looks like good stuff, too...!

I did check them out. They were pretty hot looking systems. Liked the "Ubuntu key." But... dey ain't the competition to Dell. Neither is Everex PC or Shuttle.

It's like saying, "come on Honda, catch up with your competition! offer better performance!" Then list Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche as the competition.

(In my opinion) IN THE UBUNTU SPACE, they're competition. But, of course, you're entirely free to disagree! :-D

You know, I'm just keeping it real.

Real is fine ... when you compare with just the two referenced here, would you call Dell's Ubuntu offerings "real", though?

Nope. I'd call it a placating effort.

Forget about the competition they are about to get shown up by Intel.

I still think Dell could avoid a lot of this bad PR about limited Linux choices - as well as get better Linux sales - if only they put their nice Red Hat Precision systems alongside their clunky Ubuntu Inspiron ones.

Well, they could ALSO offer something equivalent to the suppliers cited in the article referenced in the summary of this submission... BIG difference!

The systems aren't "clunky" because they're offering Ubuntu, after all!!

I think he meant the hardware was clunky looking.

Looks like Dell is going to release a 8.9 inch notebook but will linux be an option?

Ubuntu 'reaping Linux dividend'

"He said the French police force was currently deploying 50,000 Ubuntu-powered machines, while Spanish education authorities were rolling out 500,000 desktops with the OS." ****
