Give the same discounts to open source models as Windows models

Why are there constantly sales on Windows machines but never any sales on the identical open source machines?

Mar 31		 They want to give an incentive to buy Windows, that is perfectly normal. And if you thought that there are constant sales on Windows machines, there are many Windows machines that never have any sales (maybe occasional discounts, but they were never part of sales).

Mar 31		 It depends on how the sale prices come about. If Dell puts a unit on sale to clear some stock it should be across the board. If the sale is the result of an incentive program from MS it is only going to affect those computers with Windows installed.

Mar 31		 Sometimes - (but apparently not always) - it seems Coupon Codes that only mention the Windows product number work on the similar Linux model as well.

Mar 31		 I agree with the latter point by jervis961. If the sale comes at least partially from a Microsoft incentive, then it will give only Windows systems a discount (maybe Linux will too, if Microsoft only partially participates in the discount plan; but still, not as much of a discount as on Windows). A Microsoft incentive will not give Linux the same discount as Windows (if the discount comes at least partially from Microsoft).

Apr 8		 I have been searching long and hard for this idea. Sure the Ubuntu systems are $50 cheaper on baseline hardware options, but who wants baseline??? You can upgrade (sort of) to better hardware, but there is ALWAYS some kind of promotion on the Windows counterpart. I try to upgrade the N-series model to the hardware of the promotion machine and I am always frustrated by how much money I have to pay to not pay Microsoft.
