Re-style the laptop housing to look like a race car.

-600 points posted to New Product Ideas, Laptops by doctorcox Mar 20

"Transformer" fans and others that like race car styled products would be the first responders. Obviously this is not for everyone.
This concept may involve relocating the internal parts so that everything will fit and the balance would be correct.
All sorts of new visual design features could be added… for example the interior could be where the CPU is located; maybe the hood could open to expose simm chips. Real rubber tires. Lights that work. The exhaust pipe could be the CPU heat pipe. Trunk that opens to expose the I/O connections. Etc.

Great idea. I want one shaped like an amphibious landing craft.

I think it would be a bit expensive to try and design computers like this for the amount of people that might be interested. I think it might be better to just make the computer have a picture of something on the back.

I have to disagree here. Race car looks may be good on automobiles, but not on laptops.

I want one that looks like a toilet. Painted gold.

the laptop is already soo big, and you want to make it bigger? and heavier, sorry...

Craaazy!
And ive noticed a few problems:
1. It will make laptops even heavier

2. Imagine what you'd look like carrying a giant car under your arm XD

3. Looks like the screen weighs as much as the base causing balance issues when you put the laptop down.

4. The wheeels will add needless height to the laptop.

5. Ford gt40 is not my favourite car.

6. You could never take one to work or college or you'd be a laughing stock.

7. Its simply a bad idea...

8. I'd be confusing which big model car is the computer and which one stores all my Hot Wheels cars.

Imagine the embarrassment of opening the laptop at the staff meeting and getting toy cars. Then again, imagine the embarrassment of walking into a staff meeting with a large car model in the first place.

I'll stick with my suggestion for a toilet-as-laptop. At least then I can honestly say it was the perfect platform for running Microsoft Office.

What about one shaped like a dog? Its eyes could be the power and reboot buttons, 2 usb ports in the nostrils and you wouldn't need a wi-fi catcher because you could use voice recognition software to command it go fetch a good signal! Weight wouldn't be an issue because it would just follow you around all day. It could be called a lapdog. I'm on to something here.

Now we're getting somewhere.
Seriously stick to skins and custom car paintjobs for the laptop but NOT a car shaped laptop.
The lapdog is a good idea though as long as you dont have to pick up after it... if you know what i mean :D

I think it's time for a change .. try thinnking outside the box ... why does a computer have to be square?

to fit the most into it, if it where i circle/oval it could be awsome, i just imagined a slick MacBook thats oval, but the screen would be oval too and i dont think that'll be good for things like movies or games, i always think the Asus Eee PC should have been oval

Im thinking outside the box and unfortunately a rectangular box is most space efficient design. Besides; on the topic of oval laptops, why would i want to carry something around that resembles an egg?

The XPS M1730 already weighs 10 pounds, this way it would weigh 20+!

I think we've reached a conclusion now... Its an intriguing idea that works better in doctorcox head than it actually does on paper...

hey, "theideasman", women would love to carry a tiny OVAL Eee PC in their purses rather than carrying their laptops over their shoulders with a regular laptop bag.

Agree to an extent. Eee pc is one thing but a 15.4 notebook shaped like an egg? I dont think so. A small curved Eee pc for women would probably be quite a good idea actually...

Oh... well then. Thats fine. Just no 15.4 laptop eggs, please?
