Note that SigmaTel sold their PC Audio product line to IDT in 2006

July 25, 2006--SigmaTel, Inc. (NASDAQ:SGTL) announced today that it signed a definitive agreement with Integrated Device Technology (IDT) (NASDAQ:IDTI) to sell its PC Audio product line to IDT.

IDT confirm that Microsoft Vista SP1 update is not available due to their audio driver. The article explains the issue and suggests uninstalling the SigmaTel driver in order to install Vista Sp1, then re-installing it afterwards.

I have read that DELL may be requesting an updated driver from IDT and/or that Microsoft are trying to fix SP1 so that it can install with the problem drivers in place. Can I please ask DELL to comment on this - either to recommend the de-installation strategy, or to confirm that a solution is being worked on.

Thanks

What gets me is that Dell can roll out an update for Sigmatel (R182475 dated 05/19/2008 - http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&re...) to support Vista SP1 but they cant UPDATE THE M1710 DRIVER... This driver is dated 1/31/2007 and BREAKS under Vista SP1. NO SOUND.

Trying to install the R182475 does not work as Dell has chosen NOT to include all of the Hardware IDs. So, when running the R182475 installer you are greeted with a message saying DEVICE NOT FOUND.

Cmon Dell Support - get those drivers UPDATED please. A Lot of people are having issues with Sigmatel and Vista SP1.

Oh and as a side note, uninstalling the Sigmatel driver ----> Installing SP1 -----> reinstall Simatel... DOES NOT WORK.

@mrzero:

For your M1710, try downloading and installing the following driver to see SP1:

R167846.EXE

Or:

Download SP1 manually via the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b0c7136d-5ebb-413b-8...

That said, it's my understanding many of our drivers are compatible with SP1 however it's the filter in place on the Microsoft side that is causing the update not to appear. Dell is currently updating drivers as individual issues are being identified, so please continue to check available drivers listed for your system on support.dell.com.

Hi mrzero. The Dell M1710 computer you are using is a laptop. The R182475 Sigmatel driver package is for certain Dell Desktop computers only and will not work for Dell Laptop computers. I too use a Dell laptop, but it's the Inspiron variety and did NOT attempt to install the Sigmatel v6.10.0.5866 audio drivers from the R182475 package. I knew in advance that they won't work on there.

chris_b, about advising mrzero to try out the sigmatel audio drivers from R167846; mrzero may want to try out the Sigmatel v6.10.5614 HD audio with Array Mic driver package from R171786 which was released June 13:
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&re...
The Sigmatel audio drivers from R171786.exe worked on the Dell Inspiron e1405 notebook computer and was able to obtain and install Vista Service Pack 1.

I do see more IDT HD Audio drivers posted at the Dell Support site but they're for newer Dell desktops & laptops only and will not work with older Dell computers.
