Centrino 2 for Latitude XT

240 points posted to Latitude products by burton123 Mar 16

Maybe if Dell put the Montevina (aka Centrino 2) into the Latitude XT and debut it at around $2200 it might be worth the price. The current system is running a platform that is nearly a year old at this point in time (March 16). They should also aim to release this product very soon after the Centrino 2 ship date. No point in waiting a full year again before people can buy it.

I think paying that kind of price for the old parts is a bit hard to swallow, business user or not. And believe it or not, probably the fastest growing segment of convertible tablet users is university/college students.

Whether the user needs the power or not should not be part of the equation when putting the system together, it's whether the end user sees value in the product. And a $1000 premium (over a similarly built Lenovo X61t) for a VERY fancy touchscreen that will be wonderful a year from now, is a too steep a price to pay to offset components that are a year old.

Montevina is coming out this summer.
Latitude E should be coming out at that time, and Latitude XT will probably have a Montevina version at that time.

As we say: don't sell your chickens before they hatch! ;) --> demote. sorry

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=11154< out the link for XT2. hopefully, they can release it before the stated Nov 08 date - I need a new one in June/July when Montevina comes out! Dell needs to step up, put in spill-proof keyboards in all their laptops (like Lenovo/IBM) and change the hard drives to 2.5". With the addition of the optical drive, I hope they will be able to fit a 2.5" hard drive in there. Agreed with OP that a big segment is for university students.
