Touch-Enabled Displays on XPS and Inspiron notebooks

170 points posted to Monitors and Displays, Software, Laptops by junior Mar 16

Dell,
Create a type of software available for download on dell.com website to have touch-enabled displays for dell's newest notebooks....the XPS M1530 and M1330 and the Inspiron 1525 notebooks.

it's not a software thing...the display has to be capable of that....

:o) would be nice though. A tablet that doesn't cost a kidney.

I guess everything will go touchscreen eventually.... may be a nice feature, but not worth the money for most people. Although having the possibility to choose a touchscreen with all notebooks, not just special tablets, would probably be appreciated...

Did the people promoting this idea actually read it? It is illogical and plain impossible to enable touch screen features via software on a standard screen.

Yes it's impossible. But the OPs lack of technical understanding doesn't mean we don't want touch screens on normal laptops. Maybe Jackie can help the poor guy fix his idea so it makes more sense.

The rest of us managed to figure out what the OP was getting at. I guess this just demonstrates the importance of comments.

I think asking for touch screen laptops and asking to create software to enable touch screen on a standard screen are two mutually exclusive ideas.

The specifics of the idea are impossible. Yes we get that. But the concept of having touch on every laptop isn't impossible. You just have to put a touch screen in.

Software isnt what makes a tablet mate, but i know what you're getting at. It would be nice to have an xps range tablet with a decent graphics card and a premium finish. That would be real nice. :]
