Pay-ahead (layaway) receive 10% discount.

Some people like the idea of using systematic savings plans. For example, millions of people purposefully have excess tax withholding just so that they can get a refund check.

There are dozens of ways to structure this idea … here’s my suggestion:
Customer would get a 10% discount off of their next computer purchase by agreeing to pay for at least ½ of the retail price through the Pay-ahead plan. Dell will deduct a pre-determined monthly payment from your credit card each month.
When the customer finally purchases the computer they would receive a 10% discount.

So do they layaway a current computer or do they get to pick what they want when they actually buy?

In my opinion it wouldn't be a good idea to ‘layaway’ a current computer. But that would be up to Dell. I just think that Dell should look at the concept and then come up with a plan that would be advantageous for all parties. Maybe locking into a price is a good idea.

"Start a savings account", why didn't I think of that??? You are a very creative thinker.
Also, just in case you didn't realize this; if you Lawaway a Dell computer at Dell, Dell makes more money. When Dell sells through retailers they get less money for their products. Have you noticed that Dell's commercials still advise consumers to shop at Dell? Share holders care about gross sales but they care more about the gross profit numbers.

Dell did something like this over the holidays with their star power thing. I wonder how well it did after they paid all the celebrities.

Dr do you always vote against every idea submitted by someone who votes down your idea? DELL already offers delayed payment, grow up and control your own finances.
