Put your (*very* nice) Precision Linux desktops on your http://dell.com/open page

530 points posted to Dell, Linux by jmxz Mar 11

Few people are aware that Dell sells some *extremely* nice Dell Linux desktops. However when someone searches for Dell Linux systems they most often run across http://dell.com/open which only has a single weak desktop that would barely be capable of running many modern applications well.

Dell - you already do offer excellent Linux desktops (shown on that link above).

Please add those to http://dell.com/open so people can find them.

seriously ?
*word* = word (bolded)
it is easier to read and less threatening than actual bold text

see also _word_ or /word/ for italicization (or, sometimes I use -word- for the italics)
p.s. some people may incorrectly think that a _word_ notation is underlining, but it is not - look in Microsoft Word (2003) in the Tools > AutoCorrect options > AutoFormat As You Type tab and you'll see some common things like this in there.

I think it may be a bit misleading to people who think Open Source = Free, because RHEL, last time I checked, isn't free (as in price).
Though, if these machines can run RHEL, it'd be nice if you offered them with CentOS or Fedora Core on your open page.

or with openSuse, or openSolaris.

I think this is one of the reasons it would just make more sense to put the various Linux OS offerings on the OS options list when configuring a system. It then doesn't matter too much if it's free or not. What you're buying is a PC. The OS is just a commodity item that comes with it.

@aikiwolfie: "The OS is just a commodity item that comes with it."

Bill Gates said the opposite "Ten years out, in terms of actual hardware costs you can almost think of hardware as being free"

Bill Gates said a lot of things. The point I'm making is that it doesn't matter when you buy a new PC from Dell if there's a cost for the OS or not. You get the OS anyway. The cost of the OS doesn't make a huge difference to the overall cost of the PC.

It's noticable when said PCs are cheap (such as the k/gPC), but with these monsters you won't see it.

Dell don't sell the k/gPC. If you buy Dell you're not going to notice the difference.
