DELL Idea Storm Team - Each idea should be responded to.

470 points posted to IdeaStorm by stormrider451 Mar 4

Hello there.. I realize this might have been posted before. But, it obviously has not worked to this point. So here it is.

I think the DELL IdeaStorm Team should try their best to reply to EVERY idea regardless of how unrealistic that idea is; not just most popular ideas. I can understand not posting to negative ideas or ideas that simply have been posted to screw around. Every positive idea should be commented on. Its not that hard to have someone go over every idea that has been posted in a day and write some sort of small message. It doesnt take much, just a simple message saying for example: "sorry but I think this idea is not going to happen soon". Or "sorry but we do not find this idea possible". Its simple things that really make the poster know that they are being heard at least. Many of us are here because we like DELL so much we would like to give them a hand with ideas that we might come up with. Of course, some ideas will be regarding things people want on a certain product they want to buy, but I think thats fine too. Take for example my case, I have three ideas so far posted and only one has been answered:

1) Answered: http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10076698/XPS_One__More_Video_Power_on_X...
2) Not Answered: http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10077288/XPS_One__Unecessary_Adobe_Elem... **
3) Not Answered:
http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10077717/Dell_Ink_and_Printers__Sell_th... ***

If you go look at the one that is answered, you will see an example of what I am asking for, you can see there how the idea was answered swiftly and at least it gives me some sort of reply. Comments like these is what I am looking for. Not getting ideas answered makes me really not want to post anything else because I feel I am loosing my time trying to figure cool things that could help my favorite computer company. Dell, if you have this idea storm, lets do it the right way. Make your costumers feel welcomed and that they should keep trying. Is that so much to ask? I mean, I go over each idea posted every day in less than 10 min. Its doable.

Thanks!

Only positively voted ideas and only those on the site for more than a month or with a mote rate to qualify it such a response. Also, the idea should be fully thought out and described, otherwise they can continue to ignore the half baked ideas.

To me a whole moth is far too long, it is unacceptable that it would take so long for someone to look at it and post a simple comment. Negative ideas, I can buy that, no need to post on those. Same with half baked ideas that dont even make sense. But common, any positive idea deserves a simple post a tthe very least. If its a great idea, then sure post a whole paragraph or several times. But at least once should be the norm.

This is an excellent idea, PROMOTED!

jorge: "Sure!"

You mean "Surely not!", don't you? After all, you demoted this, didn't you?

Well when we get the "change our vote button" I'll change it. So once again, "SURE"!

This is a variation (a better variation) on my suggestion that they add an ACKNOWLEDGED status... I wonder if THIS will get much traction??

Maybe I should ask that they merge mine with this...

All-
As I mentioned in the MOD blog, we are working on a plan to boost the review process. This does include a more structured review process and cadence. I have to challenge the idea that acknowledgements are of much value. As awesome as the IS team is, we are not experts in all aspects of Dell business. We read all ideas within hours of a posting. When the business units review ideas, the most popular ideas draw their attention for a complete review. Agreed that a Dell response to the evaluation of ideas is a priority and you will see some changes over the coming weeks. So, immediately having a response to all the ideas in unlikely, especially since innovative ideas take time to review, evaluate and implement.

Thanks,
Dawn

Dell: set suggestion status to ACKNOWLEDGED as soon as it is SEEN

If Dell has VIEWED a submission, its status should be set to ACKNOWLEDGED.

THIS way the originator will at least know Dell has SEEN her/his submission.

FEEDBACK is vital!

True, phubert, I agree with you. If all the Ideas were acknowledged, then we'll atleast know that Dell is infact having a look at the ideas, rather than doing it for later, where, possibly the value of the post could be lost.

We know they don't actually read it. Somebody else up in the food chain processes it before they can do anything with an idea.

Really? I actually remember dell_admin1 saying that they do read through the Idea.

yes. And this suggestion is not to suggest that Dell -approves- of the submission, merely that they acknowledge SEEING it.

"none" implies (to me) "YOU AND your entry are worthless, please go away"

Hmmmm, but only just seeing it? Why not reading it?

Well the admin's seeing it is not a factor, they can't do anything with it, we've proven that. Most likely a dept. manager needs to mark it off then the admin's mark it.

Like yesterday when matt_d was around from the Linux group, maybe some one in a similar position as him. Eh?

Hmmm... that's a good start. But what about the countless ideas that have been in here and not provided a status?

exactly why I've added this one... a bunch of mine (yeah, they probably DO mean "You AND your ideas are of no value to us, please go away!") :-D

thats a good idea. on the other hand it may create expectations for some people. Also, some ideas may be read by some people in dell but these people may not be authorised to change the status.

It also goes back to site redesign. For example... although we see which threads we've touched have new comments, we have no idea HOW MANY of the comments are one we haven't seen. I suppose one could say we should remember where we've left off, but if we're following a hundred or more threads...

@phubert: Shouldn't it be the other way around? Merge that idea with this one?

But, Jackie, I wonder if I'd have to modify this one to encompass that (or better express the thought)...

If the answer to that one is "no", then, no, don't merge it.

It will combine points depending on who has promoted or demoted the idea. I will merge them for you :)
