Better heat dissipation for laptops

A New Hampshire company has created a process to create large sheets of Carbon Nanotubes, making it possible for the technology to be used in construction of electronics.

Carbon Nanotubes are said to be 5 times more efficiant than copper in heat sinks. Part of the reason is that while copper moves heat radially, carbon nanotubes move heat in one direction.

Other interesting qualities of Nanotubes are, shielding from EMI, superior wireless antennas, weight (only 20% of the weight of copper) and stregth.

Even though Dell is trying to reduce it's carbon footprint, the benefits of Nanotubes should not be overlooked.

"I heard" that if you breath those in they cause cancer? Very dangerous if they're knocked loose, due to their nano-tube nature they work their way deep into your lungs and get lodged in.

Although moving heat in one direction is pretty cool, the spot where it ends up will be very hot due to it being one spot! What is that one spot being made of?

Need more info on your dissipation.

The spot where it comes out would be up to the engineers. Perhaps it can be designed to exit in multiple spots so it isn't all in one place?
Got any link for the cancer thing?

The Spot issue is pretty much the problem now, the spot is too concentrated and leads to hot spots which cause secondary issues, from annoying the user to heating other vital components. Not sure this is the solution.

Then, "I heard", as in the I'm afraid of new technology phrase.

You need to work on the idea, it needs more of an solid idea on use or function of the nanotubes.

<< This is the kind of responses we want from the Dell people.

I dont know about cancer being caused by nanotubes but the say cancer can be cured using nanotubes.
