Dell needs to follow through on promises

240 points posted to Dell, Dell Community, IdeaStorm by jervis961 Mar 3

Here is an example of where Dell has FAILED to follow up on things.

On June 4th of last year Dell asked for people to submit ideas on how Dell can help with environmental issues. They posted information on IdeaStorm's "ideas in action" section and the next day on Direct2Dell saying ideas would be accepted from June 5th to the 25th and the author of the top voted ideas would get $1000 donated to a non-profit environmental organization of their choice.

Since then we have asked to know who won the contest and which organizations received the money. Dell has promised several times to follow up with the information but all we have received is excuses.

Dell: Please follow up on this and other promises made to your customers.

Here are some of my ideas that have comments by Dell that have not been followed through on. Anyone else want to add their's?

fahdriyami - I would be surprised if they deleted my account, if anything this idea will disappear.

I expect them to delete the old environmental contest idea.
I assume someone has it mirrored?

yeah, but really, i mean what can we do about it, in order to stay in this and just enjoy what we can...

You would be surprised what could happen. Jackie (current moderator) may not be aware of these promises that were made by the former mod (delladmin_1). This gives her the opportunity to swoop in and fix things to show how things are improving on the site. In the past things like this would be ignored by Dell for days and cause people to become even more upset about a lack of feedback from Dell. Jackie is more on the ball (I'm ignoring the fact that she didn't comment already) and tries to settle things quickly.

Dell recognized smotchberry in an email and on their website.

Who else has a mirror? Cosh's is down for the count.

google has cached versions of pages.

Well, okay. Now you're saying caching. I meant mirrors. Perhaps archive.org grabbed a random snap here and there of our ideas, as well. I was thinking of the search and sort features that cosh had.. it was nice.

No mirrors that I know of now. Cosh has abandoned us.

If you value your ideas, save them. Go to the File menu of your browser and click Save, or you can also print it out to a file, even a PDF if you have acrobat distiller or PDFWriter or CutePDF or some assorted print to PDF functionality. No sense in waiting for someone else to do it. I have some other ideas saved away as well, depending on the content and idea, if I liked it or just wanted to make sure to have it in case it suffered an untimely death.

Now he's giving lessons. Well, yes. Save now, because I'll bet this one is gone.
P.S. I use GhostScript, but I recommend PrimoPDF to less-proficient users.

He does raise a valid point. If the idea behind it is to promote environmentalism, why not follow through and make public who came up with the "winning" idea.

If the contest was actually held, Dell has to by law, make a list available of the winners. Regardless if the money was going to charity. There may be more that Dell has to provide, I stress "if" the the contest was held..

For those who post the best ideas between June 5 and June 25, we’ll make a donation in your name to the non-profit environmental organization of your choice. Thanks for sharing your ideas on how Dell can become the greenest technology company on the planet!
And yes, it's probably a good idea to make archives of that page; since some of the other references to it that were pointed out here seem to be gone now.

Well then Dell has to make public the winners of said contest. C'mon Dell the lawyer in me is looking for a fight.
