Gaming Expansion Dock/Laptop COMBO

170 points posted to Gaming, New Product Ideas, Laptops by bsmmoney Mar 2

Create a Gaming notebook that performs well on the road and even better at home using a dock. The dock could act like an extended motherboard. It would plug in using a proprietary port that allowed a second processor, more RAM, and all the features gamers love. The dock could (possibly) function as a simple desktop. When the dock met the laptop, their powers would combine into a "super"computer. (forgive the comic book pun)

This would be especially nice for the 1730 !
A lot of money gets invested in our gaming system, so make it worthwhile :)

zanlok, awesome ideas! I'd like to see a combo of both.

I might get am M9300 if it ever comes out. Check out this expansion dock out for the M6300.. it supports two displays and has a PCI slot. That is majorly cool. Now that the Quadro FX 3600M cards are out, this a system with this dock really is a great option !

The only thing is...the dock only improves the computer's ports. If a dock could actually improve a computer's performance and be a package deal with a system, it would sell a lot easier. Even if the dock worked with ReadyBoost, it would be an improvement.

Edit: The PCI slot is awesome and is headed the same way I am, I didn't notice that. (Tired)

The D/Dock works ok but the PCI is rather limited by size and of course being over 15 years old I guess it's hanging in there. Video is kind of spotty on it but I do believe that no matter what all Laptops offered should have a dock. If you want to replace everyone's Desktop with a laptop you need to make it alot easier to hook it up when I get it home...

This sounds like an idea I could get behind. I can't count the number of times I've wanted a better video card in my laptop only to find out that the upgrade is minor or nonexistent. A docking station with a PCI-E slot at the least for bumping up graphics would be killer. Maybe even do some kind of dual bios option that would allow the system to boot with the different configuration when docked.
