There should be peripherals that are certified for Ubuntu line of PCs

I just purchased an Inspiron with Ubuntu. While on the phone the sales guy convinced me to buy a printer or scanner. The problem was he could not tell me if any of them work with Linux. I had to turn him down so I could do some research. A lost sale. If there were certified printers and scanners I would have bought on the spot.

I would like to see this happen. But Dell at the moment are still distributing Windows orientated user manuals with Ubuntu PCs. So don't hold you breath.

At this point, the only Dell-branded printers known to work with Ubuntu (or any other Linux distribution for that matter) are the ones with PostScript engines in them. We're actively working on getting support for the inkjet printers with GDI engines, but those drivers are not yet available.

Update: I ended up purchasing a HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier from Amazon. $95 us. I love it and it worked out of the box. Thanks for the update Matt.
