XPS One - Unecessary Adobe Elements Studio on XPS One.

170 points posted to Sales Strategies, Software, XPS products by stormrider451 Feb 25

Hello there.. By coming standard on every XPS One model, we are technically being forced to buy Adobe Elements Studio. This program is listed as having a $350 dollar value, something that unecessarily brings up the price on these XPS One's. Now I realize we are probably not paying the full 350 dollar value of this program (as it was pointed out on the comments), but still we are paying something. Why not make it so that we can choose if we want this program or not, thus making this great computer more affordable. At the same time, you would be giving us the choice of using the money on something that might interest us more such as adding more RAM or a better video card (whenever you make it so that adding more RAM or a better video card is an option on the XPS One). Any lowering of prices, no matter how minute is always appreciated especially when you are short in money. Think about it dell!! Give us some flexibility please! I want an XPS One but I have NO use for the Adobe Element's Studio. It would be a total waste of money for me!

-Thanks!

P.S. This idea was brought to my attention on a post made by mugunth on another thread regarding having more options to choose on the XPS One. I decided it was worthy of its own thread, so here it is. Thanks mugunth!

The Value of Adobe Elements maybe $350 but that does not necessarily mean that you are paying $350 for it.
Chances are even if you remove it you'll only pay about $75 less for the computer, it won't be less $350 because $350 is the retail value not the OEM value.

Hmm that does make sense.. But still it is not a necessary program that I should be able to decide if I do or do not want it. An additional 75 bucks could get me a better video card or better RAM. I guess well get a response from DELL about it. Ill make the necessary changes to the initial idea.

Personally I think Dell should create a repository for it's trialware that gets bundled with Dell PCs. People can then install whatever they want to try before they buy. For those that then don't want this extra bloat on their PCs they don't need to have it and don't need to go through a 2 hour clean up operation when they buy a new PC.

the "value" is pointless to me since I already own Photoshop, etc
all software should definitely be optional!

I like the idea. If Dell made it an option we'd have to pay $350. By including it, we only have to pay "$75." I use the suite a lot and it is much better than the Corel trial Dell used to give us for image editing. Consider it a gift. You can use the licences you already have on another computer.

Dell could distribute The Gimp instead. Which is free open source and available for Windows.

@aikiwolfie... "Dell could distribute The Gimp instead. Which is free open source and available for Windows"
How much would "The Gimp" contribute to Dell for including it on their machines?

They are giving a free upgrade to elements in hope you will buy the full blown, or that you will purchase it for your next computer because you are hooked on it.

I don't know. I don't work for "The GIMP" project. Why don't you ask them? Of course it is "free". They might even ask Dell for a donation. ;o)
